We are developing tools and devices to collect, organize and activate health data, and creating interventions to prevent and manage disease.The NLP data scientist will contribute to the design and development of state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) for medical applications to unlock information from unstructured data in electronic health records (EHRs) to support analytic activities such as computable phenotyping, predictive modeling and risk stratification, and clinical decision support systems. They will be working in multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, software engineers, data scientists, and other subject matter experts to build health platforms to make key medical data and analytics available and actionable for patients, clinicians, and payers.Our team combines expertise in biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, engineering, computer science, and more to create interventions that exponentially improve patient care. We partner with leading life sciences, medical device and government organizations to enable fast development, meaningful advances, and deployment at scale. For more information, please visit our website.Responsibilities Build on and adapt existing methods in NLP to accurately extract key concepts from unstructured medical data. Utilize NLP methodologies to engineer key features from the unstructured data to build subsequent machine learning models. Work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, software engineers, and data scientists, to prototype and evaluate solutions that incorporate medical NLP. Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, handling data challenges from a real-world setting. Communicate highly technical results and methods clearly in well structured presentations/reports, as well as, interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams. QualificationsMinimum qualifications: Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Linguistics or Computer Science or similar). Significant industry/academic experience applying NLP in the medical domain. Machine learning (supervised and unsupervised methods) and exploratory/statistical data analysis (such as linear models, multivariate analysis, predictive modeling and stochastic models). Experience extracting and cleaning data sets. Experience working with EHR data; proficiency in Python. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with medical terminologies and ontologies. Familiarity with software engineering practices and experience developing production software.
