Senior Divisional Director of Business Development Behavioral Health

Universal Health Services Behavioral Health Division is currently seeking a seeking an experienced Senior Divisional Director of Business Development. This will be a regional role that requires extensive travel to various UHS Hospital Markets Nationwide.

The successful Senior Divisional Director of Business Development Behavioral Health:

Leads Sales Development and Managed Care functions within assigned facilities. Develops and drives all Business Development strategy with the Facility CEO, RVP/VP and SVP Business Development. Oversees the DBD in Training Program and Business Development SharePoint site. Analyzes existing approaches to Business Development and implements changes where appropriate. Supervises Directors of Business Development as assigned. Reviews facility reports according to schedule, including: marketing reports, census, intake department admission summary, strategic business plan, quarterly/seasonal plans. Plans, schedules and conducts facility site visits. Prepares a detailed site visit report documenting all observations and recommendations. Communicates with the CEO and VP regarding follow up from the site visit.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews facility reports (daily census, weekly admissions productivity, monthly marketing/intake report, seasonal plan and CEO Ops)
  • Conducts pre-scheduled, agenda driven facility site visits and prepares detailed site visit reports, including general market, system and competitor overview; as well as payor/UR processes, managed care contracting; volume reviews; and observations/recommendations for delivery to the SVP of Business Development and the assigned Operations VP. This is also to be followed with a telephone call communication directly with the Operations VP
  • Reviews all key indicators. Supports assigned facility's Sales, Business Development and Marketing programs. Meets with the BD team to assess strengths and weaknesses, productivity and training needs. Attends Marketing Meeting when appropriate. Reviews MS4 or Medik reports. Reviews referral category and source and payor volumes, sales efforts associated with net revenue enhancement; sales management tools, referral source communication system and new development opportunities. Reviews and supports budgeting process. Reviews and approves all advertising language and approves advertising/marketing initiatives. Acts as liaison between Corporate Advertising and the Facility to provide support as needed
  • Evaluates managed care relationships by reviewing contract grid; denials by payer; plans for rate and volume increases; and utilization YTD to prior year. With facility DBD and facility CEO, supports plans to address operational and/or relationship issues that are payer specific
  • Participates in development and coordination of the Annual Business Development Conference and DBD training program
  • Ensures compliance with the UHS Media Policy. Supports the facility with media relations issues via notification of Division Media Team
  • Participates in the Facility Strategic Plan review for all assigned facilities
  • Assists the facility CEO in hiring and training the facility DBD, as needed
  • Supports the assigned facilities with Managed Care contract negotiation and consultation through the approval process as needed
  • Coordinates and communicates with Team Members in Admissions, Military Services, VA Services, Advertising, Sales Training, UR, Clinical, etc. to support the local facility
  • Assists facilities with capacity and new program development through market analysis, data collection, data analysis, writing proposals, planning and implementation
  • Manages Divisional Directors of Business Development as assigned
  • Provides weekly supervision on prioritization/scheduling, problem solving, strategy and other decisions as needed
  • Updates and oversees the DBD in Training Program with the SVP of Business Development
  • Oversees the Business Development SharePoint site
  • Performs other duties as assigned/require

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree with 5-10+ years of experience required. Master's Degree preferred.

Requirements Include:

  • Experience as a Behavioral Health Hospital based Director of Business Development or have comparable leadership experience and in a healthcare business development role
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Strong analytical and business decision making skills
  • *Extensive travel required
  • 5-10 Years experience in Hospital Business Development. 10+ years' experience preferred
