Research Chemist

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Moffett Research Center of the Institute for Food Safety & Health (IFSH), is seeking a full-time position to serve as a research chemist/research food chemist who will participate in a collaborative research program at the IFSH. This person will be appointed to a 1-year fellowship position, with a possibility of yearly renewal for up to several (5) years. The research fellowship program is administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities. The fellowship does not include benefits.

The participant will be part of a multidisciplinary team involved in examining the detection and control of allergenic proteins in food and in the food processing environment. Desired skills include a strong background in analytical chemistry, protein purification methods, immunochemical methods (ELISA, dipstick/LFD tests, Western blot analysis) and total and peptide analyses. Proficiency in use LC-MS/MS (proteomic) methods for detecting and quantifying proteins/peptides in food is also desired. Knowledge of statistics and experimental design are also highly recommended. The incumbent must assist in the interpretation and evaluation of the analytical results to determine validity and scientific significance. Strong academic credentials and excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required.
