General Notes

This position will end effective six months from start date. Subsequent renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding. Requires working flexible hours to include weekends, evenings, or early mornings. Requires working with rodent models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments in rodent models, which entails either assisting in self-administration studies (behavioral testing, building of any needed supplies, simple computer programming, entering and analyzing data) or assisting in immunohistological and anatomical analysis of brain tissue (brain sectioning, immunohistochemistry, mounting, and bright field or confocal analysis of tissue, entering and analyzing data with respect to its anatomical and immunohistochemical characteristics).
  • Maintaining records for compliance, protocols, and vendor databases. Keeping all animal protocols (IACUC) current and updated as required. Keeping proper records of funds available for purchasing, which includes reconciling account balances and assisting with spending projections.
  • Perform lab management. This includes ordering and inventorying all supplies and chemicals, ensuring that all needed supplies for experiments, including experimental lab space, are available in a timely manner, and maintaining a tidy/clean lab. Ensuring proper functioning of all testing equipment and computers. Acting as liaison between lab and Environmental Health and Safety, ensuring proper disposal of chemicals, and coordinating training for new and current lab members.
  • Assist in managing the rodent colony (routine weighing and recording animal health, pre and post-operative care, recording of all experimental procedures).
  • Oversee experimental timelines for all lab personnel to ensure accurate and timely recording of experimental procedures in lab notebooks. This includes ensuring face pages, calendars, and data are entered by everyone in a timely manner, and are accurate. Assist with the development of calendars and timelines for future experiments.
  • Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, life science or related field and four years of laboratory experience, or master's degree and two years of related experience. Previous employment in a neuroscience research lab. Extreme proficiency with excel and data management/analysis programs. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proficient with at least one of the following: immunohistochemistry, rodent brain anatomy, rodent behavioral procedures, confocal microscopy, bright field microscopy.

    Preferred Qualifications

    More than the required experience in a research lab. Proficiency with other Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proficiency with literature searches. Demonstrated ability to use simple Excel functions, write moderately complex formulas, and create macros.

    Salary Range

    $ 42,228 + depending on qualifications
