The Tishman Environment & Design Center is a university-wide center that fosters the integration of bold design, policy, and social justice approaches to environmental issues to advance just and sustainable outcomes in collaboration with communities. At the Tishman Center and The New School, sustainability is truly cross-disciplinary, incorporating a collaborative space that brings together stakeholders from a variety of disciplines, schools, and populations. The Center serves as a collaborative resource center and academic convener for environmental justice groups, community leaders, design, and climate experts to create discourse, dialogue, and action on today's most challenging issues.

Job Description
The Research Assistant will support the Tishman Center on two programs: Earth Week and Good as New. The Research Assistant will coordinate logistics for both events and work to film and and check people in for Earth Week events. The Research Assistant will also help with coordinating locations for item dropoffs for Good as New, assist with moving and sorting items and work to get donations from programs across the university. This position offers opportunities for professional growth within the initiative. Candidates interested in developing a career in environmental justice, grassroots movements and/or community engagement will be given priority.

Position would begin April 2019 and go through May 2019 with an opportunity for extension. The ideal candidate may work full time in the summer and 10-20 hours/week during the academic year.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with keynote event professors and Milano staff for events during Earth Week
  • Keep track of RSVPs for events
  • Distribute email reminders for events to multiple stakeholders
  • Make purchase orders for Good as New Materials
  • Work with Tishman staff on creating marketing materials for Good as New
  • Limited amounts of moving boxes to the University Center and/or working with facilities to do so.
  • Support other Tishman Center initiatives as needed
