Obsidian is seeking interns with strong communication and methods skills to come work on leading edge cybersecurity challenges. New hires will tackle a variety of problems at the forefront of machine learning and artificial intelligence, with a focus on applications in identity intelligence for securing organizations.
Working in our Data Science department, you will be part of a highly visible, agile team working on critical problems that directly affect the company's success. You will leverage problem-solving skills to contribute to Obsidian's initial product offering. Your research and analysis abilities will also contribute to our future capabilities as you help develop, deploy, and (potentially) publish novel methods and frameworks.
Obsidian is based in sunny Newport Beach, CA and we invite interns to join us here for the full experience. Learning to surf is optional.Specifically, you're someone who will: Learn and build product through the research and implementation of new approaches in machine learningCommunicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with internal product and engineering teams to drive development and identify use casesTranslate and implement newly published research on specific datasets and problems to validate approaches and potentially improveWrangle large volumes of data and apply machine learning techniques to product and business problemsInvest time in research including reading journals, identifying opportunities to publish, and is generally committed to keeping up with data science and machine learning advancesAdopt a mindset of experimentation - can identify which new approaches will keep us moving forward Qualifications: MS or Ph.D. student (Ph.D preferred) in CS, statistics, applied math or computational scienceStrong math, statistics and data science methods coursework1-2 years of experience in industry is encouraged in data science or software development Skills: Working knowledge of at least one computing language such as R, Matlab, Python or C++Interest in analyzing large volumes of data, developing models, and prototypingStrong written and spoken communication skills (in English); good emotional intelligence Office culture: Intelligent, inquisitive, kind colleaguesFree nitro cold brew on tap plus free meals and diverse snacksYou'll be in sunny, gorgeous Newport Beach About usObsidian Security is a rapidly growing startup backed by Greylock partners ($9.85m Series A) in Newport Beach.
