SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated, detailed-orientated, and skilled Research Associate to join the Discovery team and help drive new efforts in exploratory research and the discovery of therapeutic targets for heart failure. The successful candidate will work with the team and independently to execute discovery research aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets for cardiomyopathy to support mechanism-based drug development. This research position is within a highly collaborative and dynamic department that strives to achieve high quality and in-depth research. This position reports to VP of Disease Biology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, the Research Associate will provide experimental and technical support for the discovery programs. Responsibilities will include the support of molecular biology studies (cloning, DNA/RNA/protein preparation, cell culture, transfection, qPCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry) and the generation and characterization of animal models (such as microinjection, transaortic constriction and echocardiography). The Research Associate will work with an immediate supervisor on scientific problems of high complexity. The Associate will work in a multidisciplinary environment and is expected to work effectively with other members of the team.

Requirements
  • B.S./M.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Veterinary Medicine, Life Sciences or a related field
  • More than 5 years of research experience in a molecular biology laboratory, with preferably 2-3 years of experience in industrial research environment
  • More than 5 years of experience in working on animal models and surgical instrumentation of animals (TAC, echocardiography, histopathology, immunohistochemistry)
  • More than 5 years of experience in microinjection and generating genetically-modified mice (ES and CRISPR-based) is highly desired
  • Ability to plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to independently recognize anomalous results and to interpret experimental outcome
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated, seeking scientific and personal development, keen to learn and apply new technologies
