Duties & Responsibilities
Assists research and administrative duties for two Harvard senior faculty members in the social sciences, one of whom is the Director of the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (WCFIA). For research, the staff compiles and analyzes research materials, including text-based and data sources. Investigates and prepares reports on specific topics in the social sciences relating to Japan and Asia, including but not limited to trade, politics, culture, economics, and society. For administration, the staff handles correspondence, scheduling, and travel arrangements; prepares course materials and maintains course websites; provides staff support for seminars, conferences, and other events; and serves as liaison to students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and distinguished international visitors. Perform other duties as required.
One or more years of research experience in a social science field. Demonstrated experience with modern East Asia and Japan. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Bachelor's degree preferred in a social science field. Aptitude for and interest in research; strong writing ability; attention to detail; Japanese language; willingness to learn to use statistical software and work with databases; well-developed interpersonal and intercultural skills; and ability to maintain a website or do desktop publishing. Applicant should have a demonstrated ability to coordinate several projects at once, and meet deadlines while working independently with minimum supervision.
