Duties & Responsibilities

Summary: Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Analyst supports the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study (Radcliffe) in the areas of financial planning and budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, and restricted funds management. The Financial Analyst works collaboratively with other financial staff in a team environment and supports initiatives that will improve financial processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs financial modeling and ad-hoc analysis in support of multi-year planning, budgeting, and quarterly reporting; assists with preparing management reports and financial presentations to support the CFO and other senior leadership in their financial management efforts
  • Prepares budget calendar, schedules annual budget meetings with directors and managers, and compiles budget requests
  • Provides departments with direct support and training with budget preparation, reporting, and monitoring
  • Oversees budget entry into the Harvard University Budget System (HUBS), coordinating with other financial staff
  • Prepares centrally-budgeted items
  • Analyzes budget submissions and formulates questions and recommendations; assists with departmental follow-up and finalizing budget revisions
  • Maintains Radcliffe budget and planning related data, including staff headcount and FTEs
  • Develops multi-year plan materials for departments, maintains record of plan decisions and plan updates, completes analyses and follow-up in support of plan reviews, documents decisions for communications with departments
  • Helps prepare Radcliffe submissions to the University, including multi-year financial plan, annual operating budget and capital plan, and quarterly forecasts
  • Allocates, monitors, and projects restricted fund balances and income in support of budget preparation, departmental spending plans, and stewardship reporting to donors
  • Tracks, reconciles, and adjusts restricted fund use among programs and events
  • Prepares documentation and journal instructions for fund reallocations, income/expense/balance transfers, endowment assessments, and quarterly accruals
  • Oversees compliance with restricted fund terms and prepares financial reports sent to donors
  • Ensures financial compliance with University policies and procedures and communicate possible areas of risk
  • Keeps current of all relevant federal, state and University regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change, or are modified
  • Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years experience in financial analysis and budget management within a complex, collaborative organization
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, primarily using advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to build effective working relationships across Radcliffe and the University
  • Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis and financial modeling; working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Additional Qualifications

  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree (e.g. Master's in Accounting or Finance) a plus
  • Experience with Oracle budgeting and reporting applications a plus
  • Fund accounting experience
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to effectively manage time and prioritize across multiple projects simultaneously
