About This Role:
Senior Analysts conduct innovative research and deliver advice through written and graphical deliverables (reports, blog posts, decks, etc.), consulting, client inquiries, and speeches. This analyst will be part of our Digital Business Retail research team, which serves retail and brand professionals who are responsible for the success of their firms' digital business strategies. This role will be particularly focused on researching and advising clients on commerce technologies such as commerce suites, product information management, and/or payments. The successful candidate will research, write for, present to, and advise digital business professionals at retail, brand, and vendor firms about Forrester's research on the business impact of technology change. Client firms include retailers, branded manufacturers, and solution providers who support the retail industry. Candidates will need a strong understanding of the business and technology issues facing these executives today, particularly from a retail perspective, and should have an appetite for conducting and writing research to stay abreast of the issues.
: Senior Analysts work as part of a small high-performance team and collaborate with others in all aspects of the job. In this role, we expect you to: * Develop a deep understanding of what Forrester clients require to be successful as digital business strategy professionals.* Conduct research into numerous aspects of the responsibilities of digital commerce / retail digital business strategy professionals, particularly commerce technologies and how those impact business strategy, organizational design, and best practice insights. Some commerce technologies include, among others, commerce platforms and suites, Product Information Management (PIM), and Order Management Systems (OMS).* Help define the future of retailers and branded manufacturers by painting an accurate forward-looking view and evaluating the impact of emerging technologies and strategies.* Help clients identify which tactics and commerce-related technologies best drive success, both in-store and via digital touchpoints.* Work with the Digital Business Retail Research Director to develop and refine a rolling 12-month research plan that enhances and complements research within this team and research from related other areas.* Research and write three to four long research deliverables per year that convey new ideas in a rich business context. These reports typically: 1) introduce new thinking about successful business and technology strategies; 2) present prioritization plans of new functionality and strategies; 3) compare new functionality or services and their potential to help clients solve their business challenges; or 4) size emerging business opportunities. You will use Forrester's technology portfolio for some of these deliverables.* Research and write four short research deliverables per year on commerce technologies and how retailers and brands are harnessing those to create better customer and store associate experiences online and in-store.* Develop multiple short-form deliverables on a regular basis, including blog posts, video commentary, and similar formats.* Consult via phone inquiries and in person meetings with clients to apply Forrester's research and frameworks in the context of their specific business environments and help solve their problems.* Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker. Build relationships with senior digital business strategy professionals at retail and brand firms across North America, as well as with the technology vendors that serve them and journalists who cover the sector.* Present at Forrester-sponsored conferences and briefings and deliver client webinars.* Contribute actively to the team's overall thinking about long-standing and emerging industry issues.* Mentor more junior members of the team.
: * A minimum of five to seven years of experience working in or with the retail industry, preferably in a commerce technology evaluation, implementation, and management role.* Superior listening and critical thinking skills. Senior Analysts are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distill them into simple, provocative concepts - and be willing to take a stand on vendors, trends, \"disruptors,\" and outcomes.* Deep intellectual curiosity about the retail business and how retailers and branded manufacturers use commerce technologies and engage customers across channels.* Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues - strong collaboration skills are essential to produce leading edge research across the spectrum of retail industry issues. * Solid business instincts and a practical understanding of what makes companies tick and how executives operate digital business strategies.* A creative view of markets, technologies, and attitudes combined with a fascination with the future that is rooted in a deep understanding of retail industry dynamics.* Superior writing skills, as well as clear and effective presentation skills.* Facility with data and research tools such as surveys.* The ability to travel 30% to 40% of the time (varies throughout the year), primarily in North America.* A strong record of academic achievement: BA or BS minimum; MBA or MS preferred.
