The Role

Cuberg is commercializing a next-generation lithium metal battery to power the rise of electric mobility. The company is looking to hire a Battery Research Associate who will push forward the development and testing of next-generation ultra-lightweight lithium metal batteries. The RA will design research plans, study the literature, collaborate with Cuberg scientists, prepare materials, fabricate test cells, perform experiments, and present results.

Ideal candidates are looking for a rapid learning opportunity, are detail- and process-oriented, thrive with hands-on lab work, and perform well in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic startup environment.


  • Review and understand scientific literature on lithium metal and other battery technology
  • Propose research strategies and plan out experiments
  • Prepare novel electrolyte formulations to enhance battery performance
  • Fabricate battery components and coin/pouch cells for testing
  • Perform a variety of electrochemical and physical characterization experiments
  • Present results to the team and suggest new pathways for development


  • B.S. or M.S. in a scientific or engineering field (e.g. chemistry, material science, etc.)
  • 2+ years of battery-related R&D; industry experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of battery fundamentals and operation
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and standard operating procedures
  • Has a do-whatever-it-takes attitude, thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, being capable of delivering project deliverables on time and passionate about battery research and development.
