Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc., a growing company located in Syracuse, NY, and one of the largest restaurant companies in the U.S., has an excellent opportunity in our Applications Development department for a Programmer Analyst II.

The Programmer Analyst II role is primarily responsible for application development and support activity for systems outside of the PeopleSoft ERP application suite. Assignments involve delivery of all components of the Systems Development Life Cycle independently with limited direction from Supervisor or senior staff members. Assigned projects have a limited scope and varying level of complexity and may involve a single or multiple business areas within the company.

The following is a summary of the duties and responsibilities of a Programmer Analyst II:
  • Implement assignments accurately and on time by demonstrating an established knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle. This includes direct work with users, problem solving, analysis, preparing technical/functional specifications, coding, testing and implementing.
  • Assignments may include technical troubleshooting, gathering facts from a general requirements description, discussion with business area personnel or senior staff members, analyzing data, and outlining alternatives for satisfying requirements including time, cost, and requirements for computing resources. Also may recommend course of action.
  • Development of process flow across functions, technical program design and an assignment plan for and review of the proposed solution with peers, supervisor, or senior staff members for concurrence.
  • Demonstrate project control of assigned tasks through work estimates and a project schedule with an understanding of priorities across projects Monitor progress obtain appropriate task authorizations, and prepare progress reports.
  • Demonstrate a well-developed and growing knowledge of basic and advanced System Development skills in the following areas to ensure the effective implementation of systems:Program logic development.Problem solving.Application security.Programming languages, query tools, report writers.Data modeling.Development on PC, mid-range, WEB, or client server technologyFile structures (hierarchical, sequential, relational, and other).Testing plans for unit, system integration, and parallel testing phases.Testing tools available within the selected development technology.
  • Coordinate the application of third party package upgrades and fixes.
  • Carry out I/S internal control policies and procedures required by Sarbanes Oxley.
  • May be responsible for maintaining security components related to applications supported by the department.
  • With limited guidance from Supervisor exercise effective independent judgment in the application of the Systems Development Life Cycle by selecting the steps applicable to the delivery of the business requirement ensuring an effective design and quality results.
  • Independently document and resolve production problems for assigned systems.
  • Develop and grow business knowledge in assigned areas which may encompass multiple business functions. These may include Operational Reporting, Financial and/or HR Systems, Point of Sale Processing including data collection and use in corporate systems.
  • Keep supervisor and other concerned individuals informed of assignment status by initiating face-to-face communication and written status reports.
  • Assumes additional related responsibilities as assigned.
  • The following is a summary of the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to be successful in this position.

    Associates or Bachelors Degree in related field, plus 4 - 7+ years of experience of Application Development is required. Application development on PC, mid-range, WEB or client server platforms is required. Appropriate training in Systems Development Life Cycle required. Exposure to business systems in areas including retail, accounting, human resources/payroll, and point of sale is desired. Exposure to Sarbanes Oxley controls covering software life cycle management is desired. Additional required skills include MS Office suite, MS Visual Studio, C# and .NET Framework Development, Web Development, Web Services, MS SQL Server relational as primary database, MS SQL Server stored procedures, Team Server for source management. Additional desired skills include exposure to MS SSRS, database design and SQL tuning, MS SSAS, OLAP, MDX development tools, XML and JSON data structures, and experience with Tableau or other BI reporting tools.
