We are proud to offer an exciting temp. to perm. opportunity to work as a Research Technician at a world-class research facility focused on understanding and developing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. Full Time (40 hours a week), Temp to Perm Opportunity! JOB SUMMARY This position is for a full-time (100%) Research Technician working with a Biochemistry/Structural Biology Lab focused on research in human neurodegenerative diseases. The appointee will conduct molecular cloning and insect cell culture work for the expression and production of recombinant proteins used in biochemical and structural biology experiments. The appointee will be a part of a highly innovative research and training environment at our lab with potential opportunities for training in biochemistry and advanced structural biology methods as well as opportunities to present work and interact with world-class investigators, graduate students and postdocs. The appointee will be trained to follow specific procedures for a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL 2) environment and will be expected to carry out laboratory research procedures independently. JOB DUTIES

  • Conduct molecular cloning work including PCR, plasmid construction and site specific transpositon for the high-level expression of recombinant human proteins using baculovirus expression systems.
  • Perform colony screening in E. coli, generate recombinant baculoviruses, and carry out transfection of insect cells.
  • Perform growth and maintenance insect cell cultures (e.g. Sf9 or High Five cell lines) for high-level recombinant protein expression.
  • Perform protein expression analysis by SDS-PAGE and Western Blot methods.
  • Perform protein purification by Ni2+-affinity chromatography or related methods.


  • Master s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related scientific field and 1-2-years experience working in a research lab, or Bachelor s degree in a similar field with 3-years experience in a research lab.
  • 1-2 years previous experience with baculovirus-insect cell protein expression systems, including molecular cloning and PCR, and cell culture growth and maintenance.
  • Experience working with the Bac-to-Bac or similar expression systems, and work with Sf9 insect cells is desirable.
  • Experience with the expression and purification of recombinant proteins is desirable.
  • Basic computer knowledge and good communication skills are required
