We are currently seeking a Psychology Research Associate to work with the National Institutes of Health in Baltimore, MD. This is a long-term contract position which offers:

  • Participate in developing and maintaining research protocol documentation and operations.
  • Provide behavioral counseling within a drug treatment related context.
  • Participate in subject recruitment activities, including outreach events.
  • Educate participants on research protocol procedures.
  • Obtain informed consent from participants to protocols.
  • Train participants on cognitive tasks specific to protocols.
  • Perform study testing, observations data entry and other duties associated with study sessions.
  • Obtain and process biological specimens.
  • Destroy biological specimens as needed.
  • Maintain storage records/inventory of biological specimens.
  • Acquaint participants with MRI scanner and increase their comfort level with the research experience.
  • Perform research related manipulations (e.g. help load subject in scanner, prepare and operate computer based data acquisition and task delivery) during MRI based experiments.
  • Create data spreadsheets.
  • Enter research data on associated reports and spreadsheets.
  • Provide guidance to other research associates or student interns.
  • Provide assistance with IRB or FDA document preparation.
  • Provide data back-up from all MRI scanning experiments.
  • Participate in data analysis.


  • Bachelor s degree or Master s degree (preferred) in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a research-related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in behavioral counseling, preferably in drug/smoking treatment.
  • Previous experience in human subjects interaction (clinical or research).
  • Good interpersonal skills due to extensive participant contact.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
